DEAN Foods Co, the US dairy, has bought the Alpro division from Van-demoortele NV, Belgium's largest privately-owned food company, for €325 million. Alpro specialises in soya-based beverages and foods, with net sales of about €260 million last year. The division has five plants in Belgium, the UK, France and the Netherlands. In addition to the Alpro brand, it also has the Provamel brand, which sells organic products into health food stores. The deal is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year and will be financed under Dean's existing revolving credit facility.
