This article was originally published in Foodnews

PERU's Ministry of Production has suspended anchovy (Engraulis ringens) fishing in Punta Lobos and Mollendo from 11 June, for a period of 10 days. The preventive measure aims to protect biodiversity and follows recommendations from a report released by the General Directorate of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance. Data from the Peruvian Marine Research Institute shows anchovy landings during 1 January-24 May totalled 2.54 million tonnes, up 5% from 2.42 million tonnes in the same period of 2008.
