CONCERNS have been raised over the future of American Samoa's biggest tuna cannery, StarKist, reports ABC. Secretary of Samoan Affairs, Tufele Li'amatua, says the government has considered buying the cannery during a meeting on 15 May, and that he will summit this recommendation to the governor for consideration. "We are now looking at all possibilities, even the possibility of owning the cannery or trying to operate the cannery ourselves so that we can keep our people's employment," he said. American Samoa's other cannery, Samoa Packing, will cease operations in September (FOODNEWS 8 May).
