STOCKS of bigeye and yellowfin tuna are becoming increasingly threatened, says the Secretariat of the Pacific Community's Oceanic Fisheries Programme (SPC-OFP), reports Fiji Times. This poses a serious concern for the Pacific as many coastal communities rely on these fish, according to a report on the status of tuna and swordfish stocks in the western and central Pacific, submitted to the 70th meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Committee Officials Meeting. Albacore and skipjack tuna are in healthy condition, the report finds.
