Prices edging upThis article was originally published in Foodnews
MACADAMIA prices have increased lately and the market seems to be very busy, a reflection that inventory at packer and retail levels is low. According to a report from a European trader, factories are running at full speed to match customers' demand on shipment. "Most buyers are short of product and need their contract to be shipped immediately, which is putting even more pressure on the factories," the report states. "Most processors are well sold for May, June and July shipments and have a satisfying cover in their books until the end of the year." Prices are going up and during the last week, prices have moved by approximately 5% in Europe. Some prices quoted from South Africa are: US$9.80/kg for style 1, style 2 US$8.60/kg and style 4 US$6.25/kg.
