Tropical juice projectThis article was originally published in Foodnews
RWANDA's government is to buy a fruit juice plant to process surplus tropical fruits. The project will, it is hoped, process 20% of Rwandan pineapple and passion fruit production by 2012. Rwanda produces some 31 330 tonnes of passion fruit and 25 500 tonnes of pineapples annually, and it is estimated that the plant could turn out some 12 500 tonnes of concentrate per year. The plant is expected to be in place by the end of 2009 at a cost of US$6.8 million through a public/private partnership with an un-named company.
