Fire destroys US plantThis article was originally published in Foodnews
MINNESOTA-based food processor, North Star Foods, is to decide the future of its St Charles processing plant. On 17 April, a fire started in an oven used to cook chickens and destroyed the plant. Members of the company say the plant is a complete loss and that it could take US$75 million and two years to rebuild it. Some 250 jobs are at risk. North Star Foods processes chicken, beef, pork and turkey and produces ready-toeat protein products.
