Bottling capacity rises

CROWN Beverages, the Ugandan Pepsi-Cola bottler, has invested UGX26 billion (US$13 million) in new German-made machinery, boosting its production capacity by 80% (FOODNEWS 4 April 2008). The new line started operations in February and has an installed capacity of 40 000 bottles per hour, giving the company the ability to produce 22 million cases per year. Simon Lugoloobi, Crown's chief executive, said the company had increased its market share after the introduction of new brands like Mountain Dew, Mirinda Pineapple, Mirinda Lemon and, most recently, Mirinda Vanilla.
