Cott cuts UK workforceThis article was originally published in Foodnews
COTT, the troubled Canadian-owned soft drinks giant, is to lay off staff at one of its plants in the UK. About 10% of the 250 staff at Cott's site in Nelson, Lancashire are to lose their jobs, due to falling sales. The business, formerly Macaw Soft Drinks, was acquired by Cott in 2005 (FOODNEWS 30 September 2005). However, this figure is less than feared: originally, Cott had said that as many as 60 jobs were at risk. Cott Beverages has three factories in the UK - at Nelson, at Kegworth, near Derby and at Pontefract in Yorkshire.
