ECKES-Granini, the German-based fruit juice manufacturer, has scaled back its presence in Russia. The company has sold its Uslada juice brand to a local firm, Raritet, which distributes its premium Granini juices in Russia, and closed its offices in Moscow and St Petersburg. Uslada is co-packed in Russia by Nidan, and Raritet has said it plans to build presence and market share. EckesGranini presently has an estimated 2% share of the Russian juice market. The Russian fruit juice market has recently collapsed by 45% in volume and 40% in value. It is perceived as extremely weak and dangerously exposed, according to European companies doing business there (FOODNEWS 13 February).
