Shrimp technical centreThis article was originally published in Foodnews
INDIA's Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) aims to raise the quality of the country's shrimp exports by setting up a new INR30 million (US$606 000) Common Pre-processing Centre (CPC) at Ambalappuzha in Kerala, in partnership with the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI). India has suffered in the past from poor hygiene and quality controls, which have threatened its exports. The number of rejected consignments has risen recently, especially those destined for the EU. The centre will boast world-class facilities such as a chill room for raw/finished material storage, a water purification system, chemical store, testing facilities and an ice making plant.
