GREATER apple and pear supply will be available for the Argentine industry in 2009. The apple harvest is starting and of the total 970 000 tonnes of production forecast by the USDA, about 470 000 tonnes, or 9% more than last year, should be available for processing. However, the lacklustre market may cause some of this raw material to be rejected as processors are thinking of cutting production. Of a total crop of 720 000 tonnes of pears, about 170 000 tonnes, or 13% more than in 2008, should be destined for processing.
