Argentine pistachio entry

This article was originally published in Foodnews

ARGENTINA is starting pistachio nut cultivation. Murray Food Products, a dried fruit and nut broker based in the country, was displaying pistachio nuts on its stand at the SIAL show in Paris. The nuts are grown from imported US seed, and the first harvest will be in January 2009. Annual production, at 400-600 tonnes inshell, is unlikely to worry Iran or California, but the nuts will be slightly cheaper than those from California and it is hoped that some will be exported to Argentina's neighbours.
