RCN import ban soughtThis article was originally published in Foodnews
KENYA's government has been urged by the cashew industry to ban the export of raw cashew nuts in a bid to revive the industry. There are only four companies involved in processing nuts in Kenya, and yet they still face obstacles in receiving the goods as traders prefer to export to places such as India instead. One insider said processors only handle around 22 000 tonnes of raw material in Kenya. He went on to add that his factory had only received 270 tonnes this season, enough to run the factory for just 30 days.
