THE USDA has set new country of origin labelling (COOL) rules for certain foods. Among other changes, the USDA's 2008 Farm Bill adds several food types that weren't included in previous COOL revisions; the new rules include macadamia nuts, pecans and ginseng. The regulation also adds provisions for labelling products of multiple origins. These changes are effective from 30 September 2008, but do not apply to commodities produced or packaged before that date. According to the USDA, there will also be a period for comment by those in the industry.
