THE Indian state of Tripura has started exporting processed pineapples. Pijush Agro Tech, a fruit processing unit based in Agartala, has shipped its first consignment of 102 000 cans of pineapple slices to Italy, following an inspection by Italian officials. This is the first time Tripura's pineapples have been exported. The products were reportedly priced at US$2.76, according to Thaindian News. Currently, the region's small processing plants do not have the capacity to fulfil international demand. A Primary Agricultural Credit Society, meanwhile, has been set up to deal with the marketing aspects of pineapples.
