EU shrimp crackdown

THE EU is considering checking every frozen shrimp container shipped from Bangladesh, according to the country's Daily Star. The EU plans to discuss the issue, which would mean an extended shipment time of two months, at a meeting on 2 April, adds the paper. Currently, the EU checks shrimp containers from Bangladesh on a random basis. A local shrimp exporter claims that although his company has bought the necessary testing equipment, the EU is unwilling to accept test reports conducted by local technicians.
