A SYSTEM that will detect pesticides' presence in fruit and classify the fruit according to its quality level is being developed by the Agricultural Technology Innovation Centre of Huelva, Spain. The scientists are studying a non-destructive infra-red technique and its application in the industrial chain. The citrus and strawberry industries would especially benefit from the new technology, as the automatic system classifying the fruit quality would be faster and cheaper than the present system of sorting the fruits individually.
