A SENIOR Chinese official, State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan, has officially expressed sympathy to the Japanese people who fell ill from eating frozen food made in China (FOODNEWS passim). In a bid to quell fears, the councillor visited Tokyo and pledged that food safety was a prime concern to China and the incident is being seriously investigated. Police officials from the two nations have since begun meetings over the issue. China has urged Japan not to jump to conclusions.
