UNILEVER has bought Inmarko, Russia's largest ice cream maker, for an undisclosed sum. Inmarko has three plants in Novosibirsk, Omsk and Tula. It makes more than 100 products, including frozen fruits and berries and has annual sales of about US$170 million. This is Unilever's first foray into ice cream production in Russia. It already sells tea, mayonnaise and toiletries in the country. Russian per capita consumption of ice cream is about 5.6 litres per head, though it can be as high as nine litres/head in the cities (comparable with Canada or Italy).
