Cranberry lull doubtsThis article was originally published in Foodnews
FEARS of a cranberry shortage due to poor harvests next year may be misplaced, according to Lallemand Health Ingredients (LHI). LHI said there was no risk of a cranberry shortage next year, despite reports that this year's harvest had been hit by unseasonable weather. However, a spokeswoman for Ocean Spray reportedly said that "demand for the crop is growing". According to 2006 estimates, the US and Canada produce about 7.0-7.6 million 100 lb barrels a year. Ocean Spray announced this summer it would expand its processing capacity to meet soaring global demands.
