Danone moves into IndiaThis article was originally published in Foodnews
GROUPE Danone looks to be finally entering the Indian dairy market, reports The Telegraph in India. The project - a large milk processing facility in Rajasthan - is likely to be a three-way alliance between Danone, Calcutta-based Keventer Group and the Rajasthan government. Danone and Keventer will allegedly own 44.5% each in the venture with the government owning the remaining 11%. Roughly INR6.5-7.0 billion (US$163-176 million) is expected to be invested in the new plant, which aims to have a capacity of three million litres a day. Keventer refused to confirm or deny an involvement with Danone, but added that the planned facility will be export-oriented, producing a number of milk-based products including milk powder.
