Cheaper nuts in Ukraine

This article was originally published in Foodnews

PRICES for hazelnuts on the Russian market have started to decline, according to Ukrainian news service, Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits Weekly .It is believed the fall is due to cheaper supplies from Azerbaijan and Georgia. Although Turkey remains the main supplier of hazelnuts to the Russian market, the production in Georgia and Azerbaijan has speeded up. There are plants for post-harvest handling, roasting and packing of hazelnuts in these countries. The interest in production of walnuts, almonds and other nuts is obvious in the Ukraine, too, and commercial cultivation areas have started to appear there.
