Paste plant plannedThis article was originally published in Foodnews
PLANS have been drawn up in the African nation of Burundi to start a tomato paste company in Bujumbura by the end of this year, according to All Africa. com. The US$3.0 million project, called J L Limited (John Leopold Limited) comprises 20 local organisations growing rice and tomatoes. Currently, Burundi lacks the ability to make tomato paste locally, despite the fact that tomatoes are grown widely in the country. Burundi is said to produce around 250 tonnes of tomato each day, as the fruit is harvested throughout the year.
