SRI Lanka is setting up its first canned fish factory in Kurunduwatta in Akmeemana, Galle, for US$60 million. The Southern Development Authority (SDA) has provided a 13 acre estate for this. The land will be vested in the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation to facilitate the project, and New Zealand company Sprit Wind Ltd will invest in the venture, says the SDA. The factory will have the capacity to meet domestic demand, and the surplus will be exported. It is expected to provide up to 2 500 jobs.
