Vietnam needs RCN

This article was originally published in Foodnews

VIETNAM, the world's top cashew exporter, is projected to import between 50 000-100 000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts (RCN) by the end of the year from Africa and Indonesia for processing, the Vietnam News Agency has reported. This would bring total RCN imports this year to 250 000 tonnes. Domestic processors have the capacity to process 550 000 tonnes but could only source 350 000 tonnes from Vietnamese farmers this year. Farmers have been switching to other crops, notably rubber. Vietnam will export 135 000-140 000 tonnes of cashew kernels this year, up 6.5% from last year, according to the Vietnam Cashew Association.
