A CITY in China has rejected 47 tonnes of frozen sardines manufactured in the US. The sardines, imported from a Japanese trading company, were stopped on 29 September by the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Rongcheng City, Shandong Province. Samples were shown to be infected with listeria monocytogenes , abacteria that can lead to illnesses such as vomiting and fever, or even death in extreme cases. The goods were valued at US$40 000.
