Mexican dairy quotas

This article was originally published in Foodnews

MEXICO's Secretariat of Economy (SE), under its World Trade Organisation commitment, has announced its new tariff rate quota (TRQ) for milk powder imports. The SE recognises that domestic milk powder production does not sufficiently fulfil the needs of domestic milk powder processors, and declared it will allow 120 000 tonnes of milk powder to be imported into Mexico duty-free, 80 000 tonnes of which is allocated to Most Favoured Nations (MFN) and 40 000 tonnes to the US. The TRQ came into effect on 24 January and expires on 31 December, 2007.
