Up until the 1960s, agriculture was the mainstay of the Spanish economy with main crops being olives, barley, wheat, sugar beet, corn, potatoes, rye, oats, rice, tomatoes and onions. Yet, with only managing to employ an average 5% of the workforce, Spain was no longer an agrarian country.
