Confusion over Iran pistachio crop volume, exports to Europe decline

THERE are conflicting reports as to the size of this year’s Iranian pistachio crop, with sources claiming it is anywhere between 160 000 and 200 000 tonnes. Those who are reporting a smaller crop claim hot and windy conditions earlier this year affected trees during blossoming, while others say that the crop was normal and just 10 000-15 000 tonnes were harvested early for green kernels.
