Ukraine sugar output dips

UKRAINE’S white sugar production fell slightly in 2012 to 2.2m tonnes from 2.3m tonnes in 2011, the Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday. The former Soviet republic consumes 1.8m tonnes of sugar per year. According to the ministry’s data, 63 Ukrainian sugar refineries processed 17m tonnes of sugar beet in 2012. The ministry said Ukraine might export up to 500,000 tonnes of sugar this year. Ukraine exported 167,000 tonnes of sugar made from beet in 2011.
