Bangladesh tea prices ease

This article was originally published in The Public Ledger

THE average price of Bangladeshi tea fell toTaka282.53 ($3.6) per kg at the weekly auction on Tuesday against Taka292.36 last week, an official at National Brokers said. Around 1.6m kg of tea were offered at Bangladesh’s sole auction centre in Chittagong, with almost 26% unsold, compared with 1.8m kg offered with 12.75% unsold in the previous auction. Prices came down mostly because of a larger volume of end-of-season tea on offer, which tends to be of poor quality, National Brokers said. Around 1.9m kg will be offered at the next auction on February 5.
