This article was originally published in The Public Ledger

SERBIA has increased the area sown to wheat this winter to 544,541 hectares, up 16% compared with last year, according to the country’s agricultural statistics office. A preliminary report released by the office said the total wheat acreage is also 2.3% above the 10-year average but below the 575,000 hectares forecast by the country’s Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops late last month. It also said the area planted with oats has increased by 15% year-on-year to 72,276 hectares and barley acreage is up 28% to 11,232 hectares.
