El Salvador ships more coffee

COFFEE exports from El Salvador fell by 37% to 49,166 60kg bags in August compared with the same month last year, the national coffee council CSC said on Tuesday. Total shipments through the first 11 months of the current 2011/12 harvesting season were down 39.6% compared with the same period during the previous 2010/11 season, hitting 1.014m bags. The fall in exports is due to low harvest in 2011/12, the result of a biannual downturn and strong rains in October 2011, the council said in a statement.
