Smithfield Foods confirms rumours US-based Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer, has confirmed it is moving up Brazilian maize to the east coast of the US due to high costs to source from the Midwest. A Smithfield spokesperson confirmed the company’s decision to use Brazilian maize in its hog-raising operations but the volumes, prices and timings remain unclear.
