China expands sugar areas

CHINA’S sugar areas in major producing regions increased 7.9% in the current crop year from a year earlier, the Yunnan Sugar Website reported on Wednesday, citing the ministry of agriculture. Sugar planting areas in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Hainan were estimated at 25.57m mu, or 1.7m hectares, in the current crop year started from October, up by 1.88m mu on the year, according to the ministry’s survey during September to December.
