Russia sees gain in beet processing

RUSSIA processed 2.6m tonnes of white sugar from beet from the start of the season in August to October 31, up 42% from a year earlier, the Russian Sugar Producers’ Union said. The union added that farmers had harvested 35.7m tonnes of sugar beets by November 1, up from 18.6m tonnes a year ago. Beets have been harvested from 931,000 hectares, or from 72.2% of the sown area, up from 850,900 hectares by November 1, 2010.
