India reins in its edible oil imports

INDIA purchased 475,123 tonnes of vegetable oils in April from overseas, down 12.5% a year ago, largely on higher local oilseeds supply, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India said in a statement on May 13. This was the sixth straight month of decline. However, on a month-on-month basis, the country's vegetable oil imports in April rose 9% from 435,735 tonnes in March as the local oilseeds harvest season ended.
