Bangladesh secures sugar tender

A BANGLADESH tender for 50,000 tonnes of sugar drew a lowest offer of $720.90 a tonne c&f plus commission from France's Sucden, a senior official at the Sugar and Food Industries Corporation said on Wednesday. The corporation issued the tender last month as part of efforts to build reserves ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan which is due to start in August. The government aims to import 100,000 tonnes of sugar in state-to-state deals to meet swelling demand during Ramadan and keep prices stable.
