China's rapeseed output shrinking

CHINA'S 2011 rapeseed output is likely to fall by 15 to 20%, Liu Ni, manager of the oils and oilseed information department at state grain trader COFCO, said on Monday. The estimate is largely within the market's expectations, following a decline in acreage in response to lower returns for growing rapeseed compared with wheat. Late last year, a survey by several futures companies showed that Chinese farmers may have planted 20% less rapeseed in the country's top four growing provinces.
