US canola plantings almost double

STRONG prices for canola (rapeseed) have led US farmers to increase their plantings to a point where they are now nearly double those of two years ago. The USDA's prospective plantings report showed a total of 1.611m acres of canola are expected to be planted in the US this spring. That is an 11% increase from the 1.448m acres planted in 2010, and an astonishing 95% increase from the 827,000 acres planted two springs ago.
