Better plantings boost sugar output

This article was originally published in The Public Ledger

GLOBAL sugar output is forecast to rise to 165.1m tonnes in 2010/11 from 154.4m in the previous season as farmers have increased plantings to take advantage of higher prices, analyst FO Licht said on Tuesday. The estimate was down from the company's initial October forecast of 166.4m tonnes, due to poor weather in recent months.
