Sri Lankan rice crop damage

SRI Lanka's Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday that at least 35% of its rice crop had been lost due to two recent bouts of flooding, lower than early reports that up to 90% could be lost. KE Karunatilake, agriculture ministry secretary, said that on rough estimates, more than 300,000 hectares had been completely destroyed so the total expected production was 1.75m tonnes, down from previously anticipated output of 2.7m tonnes from 739,000 hectares.
