Russian sugar decline

This article was originally published in The Public Ledger

RUSSIA might refine 2.46m to 2.56m tonnes of white sugar from domestic beets this year following the worst drought in more than a century, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) said on Monday, down from its previous forecast of 2.65m tonnes. However, IKAR added that it might make a further revision if the weather is good and there are no early frosts. The Russian Sugar Producers Union released a higher estimate than IKAR of 2.7m tonnes, although down from its September projection of 3m to 3.1m tonnes.
