ISO surplus slashed

THE International Sugar Organisation (ISO) on Wednesday scaled back its forecast for a world sugar surplus in 2010/11 (October to September) to 1.29m tonnes from a projection made in August of 3.22m tonnes. The reduced global surplus partly reflected downgraded output forecasts for China, the EU, Russia, Ukraine and Colombia. The ISO saw a deficit of 3.84m tonnes in 2009/10.
