SA maps out ethanol

EBRAHIM Patel, minister of economic development in South Africa, said state-owned finance agency Industrial Development Corporation has estimated it will cost R5.1bn ($717.5m) to build three 100m litres per year plants, which are required to meet its target of producing 300m litres per year by 2016 - 75% of the national target. The projects are a sugar beet and grain sorghum-to-ethanol project in the Eastern Cape province, a sugarcane-to-ethanol project in Limpopo and a similar scheme in KwaZulu-Natal.
