Potential sugar losses

FLOODS have harmed only about 1,000 hectares planted with sugar beet in Poland so far but further heavy rainfall could cause losses of up to 10,000 to 15,000 hectares, the Polish Union of Sugar Beet Growers said on Monday. In remaining regions, however, the condition of plantings is good or very good, the union said. The area planted with sugar beet in Poland totals 190,000 hectares.
