THE USDA has reduced its estimate for the 2012-13 Florida orange crop by less than 1% to 141 million boxes. The shortfall will all be in the Valencia fruit, which is now forecast at 75 million boxes. Early/mid-season varieties are steady at 66 million boxes. The FCOJ yield estimate has increased to 1.62 gallons per box. The Florida grapefruit estimate remains unchanged at 18 million boxes.
