Tuna acquisitionThis article was originally published in Foodnews
FRENCH fish processor, Chancerelle, is to acquire fellow French canner, Compagnie Bretonne de la Coquilles Saint-Jacques (Cobreco), for an undisclosed sum. Both companies are based in the town of Douarnenez. Cobreco is currently controlled by Italian processor, Nuova Castelli. The deal is expected to be completed within a month. If the acquisition is approved, Chancerelle is planning to leave its present facilities in Rosmeur port and build a new plant on the Cobreco site. Cobreco produces canned tuna and scallops under the Arok and Jacq brands as well as private label, and Chancerelle sells sprattus sprattus sardines from the north-east Atlantic under the Le Connétable brand.
