PREDILECTA Alimentos, a Brazilian producer of processed tomato, fruit nectars and canned vegetables, has signed an agreement with local authorities in the town of Patos de Minas to take over a food cannery that has been idle since 2005, writes Vladimir Pekic. Patos de Minas will become the fifth industrial unit controlled by Predilecta, according to Antônio Carlos Tadiotti, industrial director at Predilecta Alimentos. Predilecta will invest BRL20 million (USD9.80 million) to modernise the plant, with production expected to resume in July 2013. The new unit will produce canned tomato, sweet corn and peas. The first supply contracts with tomato producers will be signed this month.
